Stephen Stepaniuk Discusses How the Travel Industry is Being Affected by the Government Shutdown

If you were born in the United States and have never traveled to a less fortunate country, you don’t understand that it is a privilege to live here. Our government sometimes takes this fore-granted and does certain things that put our code of ethics, as well as the entire country in jeopardy. Such has recently been the shutdown of the American government. Imagine cutting yourself and knowing you will do nothing to the cut for a few weeks. This is what our current president is doing and so in this article Stephen Stepaniuk will be discussing how the travel industry is being affected by the government shutdown.

Stephen Stepaniuk Discusses How the Travel Industry is Being Affected by the Government Shutdown

By definition, a government shutdown occurs when there is tremendous disagreement between branches and when congress does not pass enough bills in order to fund federal government agencies and operations. Currently, we are experiencing this government shutdown because the amount of money that Trump is asking for is seen as absurd and illogical. Congress will not provide the funding and Trump is throwing a tantrum.

Lots of people are not being paid, there’s money going down the drain, and the country must continue to operate, but with a major wound. The U.S. Travel Association estimates that the United States is missing $152,000,000 per day from lost travel-related revenue. The government shutdown will affect the travel industry as a whole and as all of its individual parts. Places like Mount Rainier National Park in Washington estimates that for every day the government continues to be shut down they will lose around $200,000. It may be forced to fire fifty individuals because of the tremendous loss of capital. There will be hundreds of businesses losing major revenue and it is only the beginning of 2019. There was a survey done where 66% of the respondents said that one week with a government shutdown would heavily impact their business. Another 40% mentioned that the government shutdown has already affected them.

Finally, the airline industry is being affected tremendously and ended up being a sort of double-edged sword because without our people being paid, there are more possibilities for potential threats and terrorist activity. All of this tells us that what Trump wants to do is not accepted by the Universe at this time.

Conclusion

In conclusion in this article we discussed the topic of a government shutdown and what our current shutdown is doing to the travel as well as the aviation industries. Because Donald J. Trump’s wall couldn’t be funded by the Mexican government, and Congress does not want to provide the funding either, the president, the CEO of this nation has opted to lose billions of dollars per day from the overall economy of the country. It’s great when things are going well for a country, but it should not be put in this position because it ends up hurting the whole more than anything.
